International White Cane Day

15th October marks the International White Cane Day. The date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are visually impaired.

A white cane enables people with visual impairment to explore the road ahead, and it symbolizes their independent living.

Through the celebration of the International White Cane Day, Hong Kong Blind Union aims to raise public awareness of visual impairment and provide an equal and independent environment for the visually impaired in society.

Introduction to the “Cane-A-Thon” Fundraising Campaign

“It is only with the heart that one can see rightly; what is essential is invisible to the eyes.”

—Antoine de Saint-Exupéry,The Little Prince

The fundraising campaign shall be a platform for the visually impaired to be engaged in the planning and implementing of the project which allows them to receive support from public and to serve at the same time. The fundraising campaign shall be fulfilled by October, funds raised will be used to promote social integration as well as for the running of Hong Kong Blind Union.

We believe that the visually impaired are givers instead of receivers. They are capable of serving and realising their dreams.
