Blind Union's activities are diversified. With tremendous support and assistance from voluntary workers over the years, all the activities have been successful.
Blind Union’s volunteer services can be divided into 4 categories:
- Event volunteer: providing support to visually impaired participants in activities including indoor and outings organized by Blind Union; and escorting individual visually impaired members to handle their personal matters such as clinic / hospital appointments and daily shopping etc.;
- 1-1 Tutorial service: providing 1 on 1 tutorial service for visually impaired students to assist them to solve their learning problems;
- E-book production: converting printed learning materials into accessible electronic format for users with print disabilities, the main duties include proof reading of the content and adjusting file format. Volunteers can choose to work at home;
- Administrative support at Head office : data entry & sorting, letter shopping and other miscellaneous office duties.
Those interested in voluntary work are welcome to join the force of our voluntary workers. Before taking part in the services, new voluntary workers have to undergo training, which will covers: the definition of visual impairment, brief accounts of eye diseases causing blindness, assistive tools and community facilities available for the visually impaired, tips on communicating with the visually impaired, methods of guiding etc.
